Abstract

This article explores how the West has understood ecology, from a simplistic and fragmented rationalist perspective that has led to the intensification of hegemonic knowledge about this discipline, causing, in turn, an ecosocial crisis. Faced with this reality, the need for a decolonial shift arises, drawing on the reflections of two contemporary thinkers, the philosopher Edgar Morín and the theologian Leonardo Boff, who question the Western logical approach to understanding and practicing ecology. The method used is hermeneutic, which allows us to approach the most significant contributions of the authors, who converge on the need for interconnectedness, to harmoniously link different scientific knowledge with traditional worldviews of indigenous origin. This heterogeneous way of viewing knowledge offers valuable perspectives for addressing complex problems. It is concluded that, although ecology as a science studies the interconnections between living beings and their environment, an intercultural dialogue is required where all voices are heard, in order to strengthen the interconnection, but also the interdependence of the human species among itself and of this with the common home.
